My studies at shandong jiaotong university has been a good experience and a lot of fun. Their international office is great, they have been very helpful throughout my stay in china. Everything from organizing trips to buying medicine and making soup when I had a stomach ache. I could not be happier with the service offered by the international office. The courses in computer science that I was studying was less great. One of the three courses was good, the other two courses not so good. I think this is mainly because it was the first time they held the courses, and there were only two students attending. The former course was good because there were also Chinese students attending, the teacher had good English knowledge and had a well prepared course-plan with labs. The students and teachers are very friendly and I have made some good friends while staying here, both Chinese and foreign. In my experience Chinese people in general are very friendly. I am very happy with my stay in China, I have made some good memories and my mind is now even more open than before.
My only regret is that I would have liked to see more of it. This was an experience that I can definitely recommend to anyone. If I would have stayed in Sweden I would probably have had better courses in software development. However, in the grand scheme of things I believe that this does not really compare to what I have learned here. Learning about China, the language, people and culture is really great. But more importantly, you get to experience so many differences (be they small, big, good or bad) that you cant really understand unless you live with them. This gives you an invaluable perspective on things and makes you really grow as a person. Which leads me to the most important lesson of them all, the lesson about yourself. However corny that might sound, it doesn't make it less true.
